What Are You Doing on International Peace Day?

~ Make a Statement! ~

Saturday September 21st is International Peace Day. While every day should be dedicated to peace, the United Nations invites each and every one of us to take action on the 21st so our voices can be as loud as possible.

So we encourage you to join together with your children, with your neighbors, with your students, and with community groups to create an event that will attract attention from the media and make the day stand out in your own heart and in the hearts of others.

Here are a few events ideas to get you thinking. Feel free to borrow and adapt.

  • Hold a meditation and prayer event in some public location
  • Hold a peace fair with events for all ages that encourage peaceful living
  • Hold a concert at which peace songs are played and sung. Find TPN recommended songs here.
  • Plant a tree and dedicate it to peace.
  • Hold a poetry reading. Here are some peace poems to read.
  • Hold a team sporting event and  play in peace and kindness and cooperation. See Warriors for a discussion of using sports as a way to join together spiritually.
  • Hold a feast for peace and invite people from all the community to participate.
  • Gather everyone you know and make a huge peace sign somewhere in public. Post photos everywhere. See World’s Largest Peace Sign
  • Hold a peace march and take a peace pledge.
