Superheroes Are Everywhere by Kamala Harris: A TPN Book Review

Celebrity children’s books are very common. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are great. Kamala Harris’s Superheroes Are Everywhere is a book that Teach Peace Now would like to recommend to parents and teachers as a book worth sharing with elementary school children.

The concept is simple. Heroes are the people who show up just in time when there is trouble. By that definition, everyone can be a hero at one time or another. All you have to do is stand up for what is right. Kamala Harris uses examples of people from her own life who were her heroes, and provides a strong role model for children.

    Do you have any lesson plan for Social-Emotional Learning for “Superheroes Everywhere”?

      Thank you for your interest in our materials. We do not have a ready-made plan, but we can suggest the following activity.
      Give students a copy of the superhero promises from the book (image is on this post) and have students list the ways they can carry them out. For younger students, they can draw pictures of them doing their superhero activities. Older students can write theirs out, perhaps in a special superhero diary or hand-made book.

      To develop awareness of positive behavior, have students put a check mark on a class superhero promise chart every time they see someone in the class being a superhero.
