The Peace Book by Todd Parr

Looking for a book about peace for toddlers to primary age children for International Peace day? This simple, colorful book might be just what you need. Published in 2004, Parr’s boldly illustrated book has been around a long time. It is still in print and available as a paperback or board book.

Concepts/ Topics covered in The Peace Book:

Brightly colored people and animals set against brilliant backgrounds show how to be peaceful and what actions create peace. Many different ways to be peaceful are shown. Some examples:

Peace is making new friends.

Peace is growing a garden.

A surefire, eye-catching book for young children, this book will help get a conversation started on what does peace mean.

Pre-Reading: Do you think peace means the same thing to every person?

Post-Reading: Ask: What does peace mean to you?

Follow Up Activities

Have children make their own pictures showing what peace means to them. These can be made into a class Big Book or Peace Wall.

For older children make a T chart. On one side have them list ways to be peaceful and on the other actions they can take to create peace in their home, school, community and the world.
