This is International Women’s History Month, and if you are looking for great children’s resources on women’s contributions to history, you can’t beat Mighty Girl. Mighty Girl co-founders Carolyn Danckaert and Aaron Smith are on a mission to provide recommended books, toys, music, and movies that will inspire an empower young girls.
One of the highlights of the website is the listing of female characters in books, movies, and biographies making it easy for the reader to locate a particular woman or type of female hero. All these books are also cross-listed by more general topics such as homelessness, food, and environment.
Another great feature is the Mighty Girl Book Club. Directions are provides for setting up a club and provides recommended reading lists.
One thing to note is that this that unlike us, this is a commercial website, and they do sell books, toys, and Mighty Girl clothing on the site. However, their excellent book reviews are well-worth a look.

Let Me Play: The Story of Title IX: The Law that Changed the Future for Girls in America. Written by Karen Blumenthal this Junior Library Guild selection presents the women who fought for the right to play sports leading to passage of the 1972 Title IX Act. Middle School and up.
Rightfully Ours: How Women Won the Vote by Kerri Logan Hollihan This book introduces the women who worked and sacrificed so women could vote. Each woman’s biography is brought alive with photos and a craft activity to go with it. Intermediate Level
