~Atomic War Still Threatens ~
On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, Japan, followed four days later by another dropped on Nagasaki. Over 100,000 people died instantly. Over the years. many, many more died of radioactive poisoning and birth defects.
Witnessing this destruction and horror, one would think that atomic bombs and atomic war would long ago been banned and every single bomb destroyed.
Not so…
Open the September issue of Discover Magazine and read in the article The Nuclear Option not only a history of the relentless build up of nuclear arsenals around the world, but also proposals of what to do in a nuclear attack – as if humans could survive a radioactified world.
Once upon a time, our children were taught to hide under a desk. Discover suggests the future victims of a atomic bombing do the same!
This is wrong. Hiding under a desk will not save anyone.
If we cherish our children, if we cherish our future – this inanity has to stop.
Stand against atomic war today!
- Write your politicians.
- Work to have your town or city declared a Nuclear Free Zone.
- Start your own local anti-atomic war group.
- Join national and international groups fighting nuclear armament.
Here are some groups standing against atomic war.
- Clamshell Alliance
- Shad Alliance
- Friends of the Earth
- Greenpeace
- Ralph Nader‘s Critical Mass
- International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War
Most importantly – don’t give up. Just because it seems futile, being silent will only enable the status quo to continue.
