Poems & Quotes for Peace Lesson Plan

Objective: To develop an understanding of peace and social injustice through the reading and discussion of poems and quotes.
Grade Level: Elementary, Middle School and High School
Procedure: Share these selection of poems focusing on peace and justice with your students and then open a discussion using the follow up questions.
- What emotion(s) is the poet or author feeling?
- What emotions are you feeling after reading this?
- What images does the poem or quote create in your mind?
- What actions do you want to take after reading this?
- Are there any symbols or swords that have a special meaning for you?
Taking it Farther: Questions can also be used to inspire students to write essays and poems of their own or to create an artwork or poster illustrating that quote.
