~You Should Be~
Yesterday, Rex Tillerson, USA Secretary of State, told us that we should all sleep well. We are under no nuclear threat. The US President is just saber rattling when he talks about delivering “fire and fury” if the US is threatened.
If only we could trust him. But this week was the 72nd anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Something that the news didn’t seem to feel very newsworthy. The fact is the United States is the only country to have ever used an atomic bomb and to use it on helpless civilians.
We all saw the results. We all know that radiation will not just fall on the “enemy.” It falls on us all. The United States of America should be the last country in the world to be making (no matter how veiled) nuclear threats.
On July 7, 122 countries supported by numerous peace-loving organizations signed the first international nuclear weapons ban treaty. This treaty bans the use of, the threat of use of, and the production of nuclear weapons. Guess who didn’t sign it. All the countries that have nuclear weapons – of course.
- Britain
- China
- France
- India
- Israel
- North Korea
- Pakistan
- and of course – The United States
All those countries have nuclear weapons that can destroy the world.
That doesn’t make me sleep very well. How about you?

Write a letter or e-mail to your government representative and tell them how you feel about nuclear weapons or post how you feel in the comments below and Teach Peace Now will collate them and send them to the leaders of all the countries who did not sign the treaty.

It seems like there is more hate than love in the world at this moment. But that has to be wrong. It is just that peace is silent and hate is loud. I am glad the local media covered the mass. Would that the national media have covered the peacemakers in the Charlottesville church and not the KKK haters outside.
