  1. I would really like to bring activism to my curriculum, but I only work with small groups all day, teaching English using a provided curriculum. I try to bring awareness of social issues to my students where appropriate in that curriculum. Ideas for small projects are appreciated!

    • It sounds like you are doing what we recommend and have done as teachers ourselves, working within a set curriculum to find the interstices where social awareness can be instilled and nurtured. In the subject area of English there are so many opportunities in terms of letter writing and writing to newspapers that even very young children can participate in that gives them a voice in social issues. What are some of the things you have already done? We have a place to share what is happening in classrooms here: http://www.teachpeacenow.org/schools.html You can send your ideas to teachpeacenoweveryone@gmail.com. We love photos too. We feel it is important for teachers to know that it is possible to make a difference.
